News and Notes - September 29, 2008
- This year's Cavalier throwback jersey will be heading all the way back to the team's inaugural season, 1970. It's a simple, straightforward look, and I like the fact that it's only two colors. So many teams are trying to incorporate four- and five-color schemes lately (I'm looking at you Oklahoma City), and the amount of design restraint on this classy throwback is a welcome change.

- This is the third throwback jersey in the LeBron James era. The first was also a wine and gold number, and the second was the bright orange one. It's getting to the point where you might think the team rolls out a new jersey just for the new LeBron James Bobblehead to wear.
- Nobody interesting on the Cavs Training Camp roster. No Tractor Traylor, no Romeo Travis or Dru Joyce. Former St. Ed's star Jawad Williams is there, but he is just as likely to make the team as Akron Legend Jimmy Costigan.
- David Thorpe's Rookie Rankings have been updated. He has J.J. Hickson at #15, but he's worried about his ability to adapt to Mike Brown's defense. For all the talk about the terrible offense over the last few seasons, Mike Brown's defense has been nothing short of superb during the playoffs. Hickson will have to show he is willing to work on that end if he wants to get off the bench.
- A note to all those people who put together the fan t-shirt giveaways, especially come playoff time. This is much less intimidating than this. Make sure the color you choose for those "white-out" type events is white, or at least bright and different enough to show up on TV. When the Cavs gave away blue and wine-colored t-shirts last year, it fell a little flat. The bright orange t-shirts were the best in recent memory.
- The Bobcats have laid off 35 employees. I'm all for budgetary conservatism, but when a community has shelled out $260 Million to build you a new arena, you should be careful about firing residents, especially when you haven't managed to bring much of anything to the community since you got there.
Go Cavs.
